Why a Blog on Sexist Remarks?

We began an e-mail conversation about the effect of sexist remarks on everyday life following Senator Hillary Clinton’s 2008 run for the Democratic nomination for President. Anyone following this election was aware of the abusively sexist comments made—and tolerated—about Senator Clinton. (Without question, other woman politicians have suffered similar indignities, including being asked how they would care for their children if elected to office, something never asked of male candidates.) No matter your party affiliation or level of interest in politics, the words stung and raised issues about how women continue to be perceived and addressed in this country.

In the weeks that followed, we both experienced the subtle sexism that occurs daily in America.
